Geoscientist/Physical Scientist
(Ocean Surface Wind Remote Sensing)

I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (www.imsg.com), a Federal Government Contractor located in Rockville, Maryland is currently seeking to hire a Geoscientist/Physical Scientist to support NOAA/NESDIS/Center for Satellite Applications Research (STAR). This position will be located in Camp Springs, MD.
Duties:
•Provide scientific expertise in the development, improvement, validation and utilization impact of scatterometer ocean surface wind vector retrieval algorithms and related products using microwave remote sensing data
•Development, refinement and validation of scatterometer ocean surface wind vector retrievals and related environmental parameters in support of operational utilization. This will include product development, training and outreach to operational users to promote utilization and quantify impacts of these data.
Requirements:
•Decision Making and Problem Solving skills – This position requires the ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment. The successful candidate will responsible for supporting METOP(ASCAT) and OceanSat-2(OSCAT) product development and utilization efforts within the Ocean Surface Winds Science Team at NESDIS/Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR).
•Knowledge of active and passive microwave remote-sensing techniques particularly with respect to the ocean surface vector wind.
•The ability to work with and manipulate large data sets, perform statistical analyses, develop inverse models, and apply this knowledge toward the ocean surface wind vector retrieval problem. Knowledge of the operational marine forecasting environment and the role satellite ocean surface wind vector data plays in it is also desired. Strong oral and written skills are required to communicate with team members, the general science community, operational forecasters and NESDIS management.
•Desired Education/Experience: A PhD in engineering, physics or related field with a focus in microwave remote sensing. At least three years’ experience in working directly with satellite microwave remote sensing data.
•Good oral and written English communication skills.
•Peer reviewed publications in relevant field
